Carpet can often be saved if extraction starts within about forty-eight hours and the water was clean. The pad usually cannot.
Pad holds water against the slab and is inexpensive to replace, so removing it and drying the slab is standard practice. Anything contacted by category 3 water comes out regardless of timing.
